Telecom Fiji commemorated a significant milestone today with the groundbreaking ceremony for Phase 2 of its Fibre Optics Northern Project, held in Seaqaqa. The ceremony marked a pivotal moment in expanding underground Fiber optic cables between Seaqaqa and Savusavu. The distinguished Chief Guest, Commissioner Northern, Mr. Uraia Rainima, highlighted the project’s importance in advancing connectivity across the region.
Telecom Fiji’s ambitious 5-year fibre investment plan focuses on creating a highly resilient and scalable national backbone communications network. Expanding fibre between Seaqaqa and Savusavu is a key component of this plan. This expansion will not only strengthen the national backbone but also ensure business continuity and support ongoing economic growth and development in Fiji.
Extending fibre in the Northern division will significantly improve reliability for customers. As part of phase two, underground fibre optic cables will extend to Savusavu, where high-capacity bandwidth is available via the submarine cable. Upon completion of this phase, Labasa will be linked to Savusavu via fibre while radio will still be maintained for redundancy. This will provide reliable, high-speed, low-latency data links to Seaqaqa customers.
