Telecom Fiji has donated $5000 and entered a team for the Frank Hilton Organisation Charity virtual Wheelbarrow race.

This year’s race will be different from the previous years given the current global pandemic situation and will be run virtually by each participating team, as a safety measure and to increase participation.

This annual event aims to raise funds to provide education and services to children with disabilities in Fiji.

“We thank the Frank Hilton Organization for allowing us to contribute to this very worthy cause,” said Telecom CEO, Charles Goundar.

“As a local company, we have a responsibility to give back to our community, especially during these trying times where many Fijians are struggling financially.’

Mr Goundar said that the event is one of the many ways in which Telecom gives back to the community, including supporting other charities which help Fijians across the country, and encourages other Fijians to also give if they can.

The Frank Hilton Organization is the controlling authority of the Hilton Special School, Hilton Early Intervention Centre, Hilton House Hostel, Hilton Audiology/Speech Therapy Department, Hilton Community Support unit and Hilton Physiotherapy Unit.

The organisation has been operating since the 1960s and looks after children with disabilities at its complex at Brown Street, as well as providing medical services.

In addition to advocating to promote and protect the rights of children with disabilities, the organisation provides essential detection and intervention services through a multidisciplinary, family-centred approach.

They also assist parents with disabled children by helping them with any hardships and guiding and empowering them to better understand any special needs their child has and seeks to empower and build independence among children with disabilities so they can one day fully participate in society.
