Telecom Fiji Launches Nakorokula–Tavua Fibre Optic Project to Strengthen Connectivity in the Western Division

Telecom Fiji today officially launched the Nakorokula–Tavua Fibre Project, a major upgrade that will significantly improve connectivity for families, businesses, schools, and essential services across the Western Division.

The launch ceremony was held at Ellington Primary School Hall, bringing together community leaders, Government officials, partners, contractors, and members of the local communities of Rakiraki.

Speaking at the event, Telecom Fiji Chief Executive Officer Mr. Charles Goundar said the project will ensure that people and businesses in the area have access to faster, more reliable, and uninterrupted communication services. He also highlighted that stronger connectivity would support education, small business growth, emergency response, and daily digital needs for families.

This project replaces old and damaged fibre lines along the route, ensuring that households and businesses will benefit from a stronger and more secure connection. It will also support future development opportunities, especially for businesses looking to set up in the Tavua–Rakiraki corridor, which has been identified as a key growth area for investment. With improved connectivity, local entrepreneurs, farmers, tourism operators, and Government services can operate more efficiently and expand their reach.

Work on the project begins mid-November 2025 and is expected to be completed by 30 May 2026. Once finished, communities will experience fewer service disruptions, better access to online services, and improved communication for schools, health centers, and Government operations. The upgraded link will also allow businesses to use modern digital tools, access cloud services, and improve customer service.

Telecom Fiji expressed its appreciation and acknowledged the participation of Ellington Primary School staff and its Head Teacher, Mr. Jitendra Kumar, for hosting the launch event.
